Captains Update for February

Club Captain: Steve Vyse

I start by thanking you all for the condolence messages regarding the sad loss of Julian Noble-Brown. Julian was a wonderful person and well respected by the members. Amelia and James would like to pass on their thanks for all the kind messages received.

Competitions:

The Pat Appleford MacMillan Texas Scramble was played in atrocious conditions and 4 teams managed to complete 14 holes before calling it a day. My congratulations go to the winning team of Kevin Battman,Mark Bliss,Connor and Graham Taylor with a Nett score of 34.9.

TEAMS (men)
Over the golfing year we play several club matches home and away, it’s a chance to play a competitive round of golf usually match play, make new friends, and play on a different course. Arkley has 3 different teams offering a variety of challenges depending on your ability. Since last year there has been a few changes to the personnel set up:

STAGS & RABBITS:
David Holt and John Casalaspro have stood down as team managers and they have been replaced by John Ginn with John Jennings as his assistant. David Holt will continue as fixture secretary for both teams.

If you are interested in playing for the club the following criteria applies.

RABBITS
Min h/cap 18, with no age restrictions, matches usually played in the afternoon followed by refreshments.

Last year’s results
Played 6 / Won 4 / Halved & Lost 1

STAGS:

Min age 55 with no h/cap limit, matches played in the morning followed by lunch.

Last year’s results
Played 11 / Won 8 / Lost 3

Stag of the year was David Ross with 7 wins out of 10 matches.

FOXES:
H/cap 10 – 18
Matches played in the afternoon followed by refreshments.

Managed by Martin Pyrke our foxes team have performed well above expectations over the past 3 years winning their division 3 years on the trot, as well as reaching the final 3 years running .

The fixtures and sign-up sheets are located just inside the men’s changing room for all 3 Sections.

This year’s Captains Away Day will be held at Northwood Golf Club on Thursday 4th August. Details to follow.

Post New year the weather hasn’t started well for our 2022 golf, carry only for last few weeks.

4/1 – No one played due to the rain, just had a chat and a coffee in the warm!

11/1 – Fun comp 9 holes of 5 clubs and a putter.  The course was still pretty water logged however the greens were playing well and lush compared to the previous week.

Well done 1st Max Bourn 17 points with a blob 2nd Tanya Wilson 15 points 3rd Kaz Donald & Wendy Living 14 points each.

18/1 – Fun Comp Texas scramble – 12 players entered our comp, frosty and slightly foggy conditions.

1st Kaz, Marion & Juliette nett 36.95. A close 2nd Max, Therese & Cindy nett 37.5 3rd Laura, Lorraine & Tanya nett 40 4th Maggie, Margaret & Tricia nett 41.2.

25/1 – Arkley Waltz – Our first 14-hole comp this month due to the wet course conditions which have now improved.  We played the Arkley Waltz, 1 score counts, 2 scores counts and 3 scores counts.

1st Max, Laura & Doris with 52 points, 2nd Margaret, Cindy & Tanya with 44 points 3rd Sylvia, Ann B & Therese 37 points.

Who’s Doris, I hear you asking. Well, you just need to come up and play to find out !

You will have seen the email explaining that our refurbishments are about to start, Really Looking forward to our new look Arkley clubhouse.

We wish the Get Golfing building team well hopefully there aren’t too many challenges with this project .

Our golf won’t be affected, hopefully

We will see more of the ladies playing as the weather improves.

‘Save the date’

Saturday 9th April. Arkley Spring Fayre.

We plan to have a selection of stalls, Plant, Tombola, Gift, Jewellery, Cakes and a nearly new or unwanted Golf stuff.

We are requesting donations, for any of the above, please only give us items that you would like to receive.

Please ask one of the committee for further details or bring any donations up on a Tuesday or when you are playing. Thank you in advance for your support.

The monies raised will go to our chosen charity for Prostate cancer.

The Spring Fayre will be the first event after the renovations are completed so let’s make it a good one.
